Q: Difference Between Porsche 911 Carrera, 911 Targa and the difference between the Porsche GT2 and GT3??
I see them all the time but I have been wondering for the longest time what is the difference between the Carrera and the Targa? Also what is the difference between the GT2 and the GT3. Please do not just give me engine spec's...I can look that up myself.
GT3 and GT2, are they different racing classes? The GT3 has a lower HP rating than the GT2 but everyone talks about the GT3. Why??
A: The Carrera name was originally used for the highest performance versions of cars from Porsche, with the name coming from the Carrera Panamerica race. In the early 1980s, Porsche began using the name for all 911 models, and it has been more or less synonymous with them since.
The Targa was introduced in the mid 1960s, shortly after the 911 Coupe. The original Targa was essentially the convertible version of the 911, featuring a removing roof (what has since become known on all cars as a Targa top), and a fold down plastic rear window. A roll bar remained (due to structural requirements, the Targa design worked better than a straight out convertible). A few years later the Targa replaced the fold down plastic window with a fixed glass window, making it less a convertible and more of what most people recognize as a "Targa."
The Targa went through another evolution in the late 1990s, when the design was changed to feature a retractable top, married to sides that appeared the same as the Carrera Coupe. Overall, the Targa has been similar to the Coupe, though due to it's nature it is a little bit heavier and has less structural rigidity (though this are fairly small differences in the most recent versions). The Targa name also derives from a race (the Targa Florio).
The GT2 and GT3 are what would have been called Carreras by older Porsche naming standards, in they are the premium performance models based on current cars. In the late 90s, when both were first introduced, the GT2 was aimed as a car that could be homologated for competition into the GT2 class, and the GT3 aimed at the GT3 class... which led to their names (though current classing no longer matches the names, and the Porsche GT1 is now long out of production).
The GT2 features a turbo charged engine where the GT3 is normally aspirated. The current GT3 (997) was introduced before the current GT2, and the previous (996) version received some updates that took longer to reach the former version of the GT2. These are two major factors why many look at the GT3 more fondly than the GT2. Additionally there is heritage, while the GT3 seems a direct descendant to the early Carreras, and cars like the 911R, 911RS, 993RS, the GT2 seems a little less relevant (with only the 934 and Turbo RSRs of the mid 1970s as earlier reference). The GT3 is also available in RS trim - for practical purposes, this allows Porsche to have the most suitable car to homologate the current GT Class race car (GT3 RSR), but it also produces a car which is a good match to the GT2 even with much less power. The GT3 is the basis for current production based racing... and in terms of ownership, a normally aspirated engine is less expensive to own than a turbo charged car.
The GT2 is a fantastic car, and clearly the top of the heap among Porsches current offerings, but for all of the above reasons... as well as the price tag difference (the GT3 offering not that much of a drop in performance for quite a bit less of impact on the wallet), many will focus on the GT3 over then GT2.
Q: Ferrari F430 Scuderia, Lamborghini Gallardo LP-560-4, Porsche 911 GT2, Corvette Z06, Audi R8, Nissan GT-R....?
Porsche 911 GT3, Dodge Viper SRT-10, BMW M3, Corvette ZR1, Dodge Viper SRT-10 ACR, or Porsche 911 Turbo? Which one of those sports car would you have? (only one from that specific list)
A: GT-R a def from your list.
Q: how to tune the porsche 911 gt2 for drift?
A: Grow up. The GT2 is a street legal track car...not a car for drifting. Christ.
Q: Porsche 911 GT2 or Lamborghini Gallardo?
Imagine that you have the cash, they both go for around 200K, what would you rather get? why?
A: ...the blue one... I like blue.
Q: Audi R8, Ferrari F430 Schuderia, Porsche 911 GT2 (997), Nissan GT-R, or Corvette ZR1?
which one would win in an ultimate test at the Nurburgring? I am pulling for the ZR1
A: I would say the Nissan GT-R, since it was engineered to compete with those cars.
Q: Porsche 911 GT2 vs Corvette Z06?
on a straight line qtr mile or any road course...
A: The Vette Z06 is better in the long run but the Porsche is quicker off the mark by alittle...overall the Vette is the Best bang for your Buck and has superior handling and performance besides its much cheaper to maintain than the Porsche too!! If money is no limit then get both for best results....Brrrooommmm...brmmmmm!!!
Q: Audi R8 vs Porsche 911 GT2?
I'm currently thinking in buying one, but which one is better and which is faster?
A: the GT2 more powerful version from the 911 turbo. Its way faster on straight way. Its hard to control if you don't how to drive.
R8 has pure quality and handling, more pleasure to drive with. And the car looks better.
And just 911 turbo would cost more than R8. Unless you want to wait for the new R8 V10 model witch coming out this year I think. Or wait another two or three for V12 TDI. If they are comming out.
but test drive it yourself. See whats suits you best.
Q: how much does a porsche gt2 911 cost?
A: The GT2 is not in production at the moment, so pricing is largely a matter of how much the market can support. The original list price was about $180k as I recall... however, once the GT3 was introduced in the US, sales on the GT2 dropped so much that many dealers I know of were selling the GT2 for the same, or even a bit less than the GT3.
With the new 997 GT3 out, I'd expect that would also force used GT2 prices down, though probably still hoovering right around the $100k area. At some point, there will probably be a 997 based GT2, and that will be back in the price range of the earlier GT2s (and will also likely drive the 996 GT2 a little lower).
Q: which is better Porsche 911 turbo, or the gt2 in NFS: pro street?
like the proto is faste than the gt-r cause mods werk a whole lot more, but how about for the porsches?
and which would be better a nissan proto?
or a porsche?
and...i heard you cant put vinyls on one of the gtr's.
which one is that?
also...lol.
the car that is better out of these, which race mode should i choose em for?
A: Grip: 911 turbo
All other modes: GT2
Nissan proto is way better than both porshes in grip and speed, not sure about other modes.
You can't do any body or visuals on the GTR Proto. (You can lower it though in tune)
Q: What brand offers better performance: Porsche or Ferrari?
I'm trying to figure out if a Porsche 911 GT2 could beat a Ferrari F430 or a 360 Modena in a straight line race.
Can a Porsche 911 GT3 beat a Ferrari 612, 599 GTB, or FXX in a straight line race?
A: The GT2, 911 Turbo, and GT3 all are faster in a drag race.
GT2: 0-60 in 3.5 seconds.
GT3: 0-60 in 3.9 seconds.
911 Turbo: 0-60 in 3.7 seconds.
F430: 0-60 in 4.0 seconds.
360: 0-60 in 4.4 seconds.
If it was the GT3 versus the 599, or FXX, the Ferrari's would win.
If it was the GT3 against the 612, I would say the GT3 would win, but it would be very close.
The GT2 is the fastest and most powerful 911 Porsche ever made.
Q: Porsche GT2?
I have a porsche 911 996s and love it but am looking for something a bit more, i have come accros the porsche GT2 (996 model as i can not get a new 997 GT2 due to avalibility or should i say lack of) and the write ups sound great, but i will be using it to drive from the UK where i store the car to my place in Spain. I was wondering if anyone has a GT2 and if so what are the noise & comfort levels on a long trip. Note :I had a 911 C4 before and did not like the 4 wheel drive hence the GT2 not the GT3.
Thanks so far but to the GT2 owners that have answered can you tell me what it is like to drive distances as that was the question. I did think that a few track days would also be handy so i can get the feel of it. As i said before i have tryed the Turbo and i had a C4 before hence the GT2.
A: well I am getting the new Porsche 911 GT2 (997) its not available because its not out yet but you can always make an Order thats wht I did and in Black Metallic its Costing me (Including Shipping) $220,000.
Cant tell you anything about the Ride though but Some magazines claim that its better and more comfortable than the Old 996 GT2 but Mind You making a Journey this Long in a Stripped Down Porsche isnt really a Piece of cake I mean in a 911 Turbo its very easy but the GT2 ummmm.... I dont Think so.
I once Drove frm Yorkshire to Paris about 3 years ago in a 1995 carrera 2 and it wasnt the Best Driving Experience Believe me because the Base Models it self are a bit uncomfortable but still I wouldnt say it was a Bad Experience because I love Porsche!!!..
Linkin Soldier.
Q: What is the best and the worst Porsche?
My favorite would have to be the 911 GT2 (997)
The Porsche I dislike most would be the Cayenne
What Porsche you think is best and which one worst?
A: this is a personal question
to me the best is the 911 turbo(997)
to me the worst is the the boxer and cayenne
Q: pros and cons of new and second hand cars?
I am going to buy a porsche 911 GT2 and I want to know wheather a new or second hand car is better.
Please help me!
A: New used no real difference other than the fact your going to buy a new car that will loose its value fast right after you drive it away from the dealership... Used cars are great if you can handle the fact your friends will know you bought a used car. When buying a used car go to a shop that knows the make models and year VERY well. They know the typical problems each car model has and will know to look at specific areas to tell you if its a good car... Driving a used car and looking at the milage AND its general appearance is NOT the way to judge a used car. When you find a car that looks shiny and clean and drives nice THEN have it inspected by not one but 2 techs that know that model well..
There is NO downside to having many many cars...
Ok there may be a few.
1. Not all your cars might not be making you look good. I have 200K+ dollar cars and 500 buck pickup trucks... But I just have bumper stickers that say things like (I HAVE BETTER CARS THAN YOURS AT HOME) Or I won't DOWNGRADE to a newer car or instead of car BMW/Mercedes ect to coinside with the cars make I am driving.
2. and you need the space/places to park the cars so your neighbors won;' hate you for having a bunch of cars in your front yard.
You can get inshurance that covers all the cars you have without paying much extra. But you may have to sign a paper that says you won't loan any of your cars out to uninshured drivers..
I have 68 cars I collect them like a crazy cat lady..
Q: where to find porsche 911 seats?
i am a car guy and would like to fashion some furniture from the seats of a 911 porsche i am looking for the sport seats off a gt2 or gt3 or even a porsche from the 70's i can't find anything right now so really anything would help. thanks
A: Ebay is always a good place to look. The seats used in the 911 from the 70s and 80s were also used in the 924 and 944, and you may find those seats to be a bit cheaper even though they are the same.
Don't even think about calling your local Porsche dealer! I called them because I wanted a seat track for a 1977 911 and they wanted $600! Just imagine how much a whole seat costs!
Q: Which Porsche would you choose, and why?
I plan on getting one 997-based Porsche 911 - either the 911 Turbo, the 911 GT3/GT3RS, the 911 GT2 or the Ruf RT 12 - by the end of the year...
A: The RUF RT12 is by far the coolest of the bunch, but is also upwards of 350k USD.
other than that, it really just depends on what you want out of the car.
The 911 turbo is a user friendly, daily drivable supercar, the GT3 is a track oriented/much more hardcore car, and the GT2 is a 911 on roids (including sever roid rage).
Personally, I would choose the GT2. Im kind of thinking about getting one myself eventually. I love my 996 GT2 to pieces. Such an awesome/brutal car.
